I loved my AZ box minime and was watching a lot of television.....especially my beloved Guatevision in Spanish...

I was doing a blind scan and it took a long time, so I unplugged my azbox in order to stop it from going forever....I then left the power supply off and went for two weeks vacation

When I came back, I get the power light on, and nothing else...nothing on screen at all....It will not start in safe mode, or anything else.....the power light comes on, and it appears to start as normal

but nothing on the tv screen.... have tried HDMI, composite video, and audio video....

Any ideas how to bring it back to life ???  I tried booting from the USB port with firmwar, and the USB stick flashes away....also I have tried hooking to my computer with USB and ethernet cable, and no contact. Its like the box doesnt exist......

Can anyone help me , all I see is a black screen on the tv......but I suspect there is some life in the box somewhere.....I am missing my mexican movies and Guatevision !!11  Dwight   VE7BV  Kamloops

Sounds like you corrupted the flash when the unit was unplugged without doing a proper shutdown.  If the unit fails to respond, you should never simply pull the power cord but rather reboot the unit by holding down the power button for approximately 5 seconds until the blue light starts flashing then release it.

Just to make sure you are properly booting to safe mode, please follow these steps:

1. If the unit is currently unplugged, plug in the power cord then push the power button.  If the units is already plugged, reboot the unit as per the above.
2. Press and hold down the 1 key on the remote control while pointing at the receiver for at least 60 seconds or until you see the "AzBox booting in safe mode..." message appear on your TV.
3. Once in safe mode, go in software update and reinstall the current 2.05 firmware.  By doing so, the program flash area will first be reformatted which will allow your unit to work again.
4. Pay attention to your TV as once the flash successfully completes, your receiver will automatically reboot after 3 seconds.  Immediately after you see the screen go black, press and hold down the 0 key on your remote until you see the "AzBox booting..." message.  If it still boots in safe mode, it means you did not hold down the 0 key properly so select reboot from the shutdown menu then hold down the 0 key while the unit is booting until you see the "AzBox booting..." message.
5.  Your unit should be restored to factory defaults and ready to be used again.  If you have a USB backup of your settings, you may restore it at this point or setup all your satellites from scratch.

Thank you for your answer.....I could not get it to boot even in safe mode, so I sent it in for repairs....In the meantime I purchased
a second unit which is working fine, except I have not figured out yet how to turn it off...

Pressing the Power button on the remote control should make the receiver LED power light turn orange instead of blue which means that the receiver is in standby mode and pressing the power button again quickly brings it out of standby as the receiver is still running in the background.  Standby mode is normally how you turn off the receiver when not in use and is similar to putting a laptop on standby which turns off the screen but your applications are kept open in memory.

Pressing the menu key and then the power button will show you the shutdown options menu where in addition to standby mode, you may also set a sleep timer, reboot or do a full shutdown of the receiver.  Before unplugging power to the receiver, it is recommended to always do a shutdown first in order to prevent the flash memory from getting corrupted.

This is a known issue to be resolved in the new firmware we are currently working on which will allow the user to abort blind scans. 

Please note that even if the unit stops responding, it is perfectly safe to restart it by holding down the power button.  Just don't pull the AC cord without first holding down the power button for at least 5 seconds.

FYI, we recently serviced your receiver which was sent to us by your dealer for repair.  It appears the receiver was somehow dropped as the casing was slightly bulging on the bottom of the unit.  The issue of your receiver not booting was caused by the USB security dongle inside the unit which came loose.  This device is to prevent the receiver from being cloned and won't boot without it being plugged in.  Once it was plugged back in, the receiver started operating normally again and even all of your settings and scanned channels were intact.

The casing on the bottom of the unit was properly reseated and everything else was tested and in good working order so your receiver should already be on its way back to you.

The ability to abort blind scans has now been added in firmware version 2.20 that we recently released.
